Well shit, that went quick!
Don't know about you but 2017 positively flew by for us. Maybe that whole thing about 'the older you get the faster it goes' actually has some merit.
Anyhoo, Happy New Year y'all and welcome to 2018. Also welcome to the 5th installment of our annual Imajica Retrospective, a look back at the year that was 2017.
While it was a bit of a slower year, for not only us but the entire wedding industry in general, it was a very diverse 12 months. 2017 saw us shooting anywhere from expansive down south vineyards to intimate suburban backyards and everything from two hour Pop Up weddings to 15 hour all day extravaganzas.
So what were the highlights and milestones you ask?
Watching the Best Man drink beer out of his shoe to toast the Bride & Groom during his speech? Laughing til it hurt while the Bride and her Bridesmaids danced like they were possessed in the cabin of a boat cruising around off Hillarys? Doing tequila shots with the bridal party at Mojo's?
Haha, no, these are just a few of the hilarious things we get to be a part of in the line of duty! In all seriousness though...
We shot at a bunch of amazing venues we'd never worked at before. Core Cider House, Penguin Island, Coogee SLSC, Caves House and Perth Zoo just to name a few.
I'd been dabbling back into film photography over the past few years and 2017 was the year we once again made it an official part of our workflow. We've included a lot of it in the retrospective right here! I won't go into the reasons we love film so much as they're myriad, I could write a whole other blog post on it. What I will say is it's an incredibly well suited medium for wedding photography.
This is another thing I've been working on with our wedding clients over the past few years and I really feel like we raised the bar over the past 12 months using multiple light setups in some super awesome locations. The icing on the cake was nailing a few night shots on film, just to add another level of complexity to it all, lol.
Trash The Dress Shoot
The ultimate highlight of our working year though simply has to be Sarah's Trash The Dress Shoot in the elephant enclosure at Perth Zoo. It was the first time we'd done a trash the dress and I can tell you with total certainty it's gonna be hard to top! (see it here).
So as you can see it was a very interesting year! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing vendors we worked with (you know who you are!), you all helped make our wedding days a breeze.
But of course none of this would have happened if it wasn't for our beautiful clients. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU!
Thank you for choosing to have us on board for your wedding day.
Thank You for your sense of adventure.
Thank You for just being you.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with you all.
So without further ado, let's dive in and take a look at 2017...
If you've made it this far then Thank You!
Though you're probably wondering about this last shot right? Well we did say we've been shooting a bunch of film and this here is what we call the leader from a roll of processed film. Before we scan our film we write the date on it with a paint pen and well, I just thought this was an interesting thing to include. Gotta love useless trivia, haha.
So what's in store for 2018? We've got some big announcements in the pipeline so follow us on social media and keep in touch.
Looking forward to hearing from you all soon!
